BearCare voluntarily recalled the Walnut smart baby thermometers on May 10, 2023, after receiving consumer complaints of skin burns and skin irritation (ranging from minor to severe) in children who used them. (1)(2)

Some of the possible signs of a failing device include: (2)

  • Diminished battery life
  • Heat or a sensation of warming at or near the site 
  • Skin irritation or redness on the spot that touches the device
  • Connectivity issues with the Walnut App
  • Leaking of any substance from the device’s exterior
  • Any signs of corrosion on the back of the device (near or around the smart sensor)

The Walnut wearable baby thermometer is an over-the-counter rechargeable device designed for continuous chest temperature monitoring. It’s intended for children ages 0-6 years. (1)(2)
