Pottery Barn Convertible Crib Recall 2023

Why Were These Cribs Recalled?

About 310 units of Pottery Barn Kids Penny Convertible Cribs were recalled on July 20, 2023, over possible laceration risks from sharp edges that can come loose. (1)(2)

According to the recall advisory from Pottery Barn, the cribs’ end panels can become loose because the glue wasn’t consistently applied. This can result in the exposure of sharp edges, which can pose laceration risks to your baby. (1)

Pottery Barn received two reports of the cribs’ end panels separating from the product. Thankfully, no injuries were reported relating to this crib recall. (1)(2)

What Pottery Barn Convertible Cribs Are Recalled?

Other Pottery Barn Crib Recalls

Pottery Barn Kids Drop-Side Crib Recall 2010

About 82,000 units of Pottery Barn Kids Drop-Side Cribs were recalled in July 2010 due to suffocation risks. The hardware can break with age-related wear-and-tear or incorrect assembly, causing the drop-side to detach. This increases a child’s risks of entrapment and suffocation. (3)

The company and the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) received 36 reports of the drop-sides detaching or malfunctioning, leading to seven incidents with minor injuries. (3)

Thankfully, although there was one entrapment incident between the crib mattress and the detached drop-side, the child was freed without injury. (3)

Pottery Barn Kids Spindle Cribs 2005

In September 2005, around 7,600 units of Pottery Barn Kids Spindle Cribs were recalled because the spindles on front rails can loosen and detach, posing entrapment risks. (4)

Pottery Barn Kids received six reports of spindles detaching from the cribs. Thankfully, no related deaths or injuries have been reported. (4)

What Was The Recall On Cribs In 2011?

In June 2011, the US government issued a ban against drop-side cribs due to safety risks (i.e., thousands of injury reports and dozens of deaths). It led to numerous crib recalls issued by all the brands and companies selling these products. (5)(6)
