Huggies Snug And Dry Vs. Little Snugglers: Which Diaper To Choose For Your Baby?

Updated on

Overview

Choosing the right disposable diapers for your little one can make a big difference in preventing blow-outs and also how many times you’ll need to change them. It may also affect the amount of money you’ll be spending on these baby products and whether your child might experience rashes or sensitivity issues.

Many parents choose the most popular diaper brands, such as Huggies and Pampers. Younger babies usually start with diapers with velcro straps, then move to pull-ups when ready for potty training.

What Is Wrong With Huggies Diapers?

  • Parents Tawanna and Kelly Rice filed a class-action lawsuit against Kimberly-Clark Corporation, the makers of Huggies Snug and Dry diapers, last August 2021 in a California court. (5)
  • They alleged that the company falsely advertised and defended the diapers as safe for babies.
  • According to the lawsuit, the company told customers that Huggies products can’t cause a chemical reaction with stool or urine and may be safe on delicate skin. Also, the company reportedly claimed that pediatricians and other health professionals have evaluated the products.
  • Tawanna and Kelly picked the diaper for their son because it’s from a trusted brand. They continued using it despite their son showing some discomfort because they weren’t sure what was causing it at first.
  • But two weeks after using the product, their son developed possible chemical burns in areas covered by the diaper.
  • In the lawsuit, the couple detailed that they first thought it was due to the brand of wipes they were using. They added that they couldn’t believe at first that diapers were causing their son’s injuries.
  • They applied antibiotics and moisturizing ointment recommended by their doctor. They also stopped using the wipes. But the problem persisted.
  • According to the couple, their son’s chemical burns only began healing after they switched to another diaper.
  • They believe that Huggies concealed information about their products’ safety. The lawsuit also cited several complaints from other parents regarding the product.
  • The class-action lawsuit seeks over $5 million in damages from Kimberly-Clark Corporation. The case is still pending.

Cons

  • Possible problems with leakage and absorbency
  • Some parents complained about the diapers causing diaper rash or possible chemical burns.

Positive Reviews

I was fortunate to receive so many diapers at my baby shower, that they lasted about 2 months! I received pretty much every brand out there, which gave me a chance to truly know which brand worked best and by far, it was Huggies. They not only keep my baby dry and comfortable, I haven’t experienced any blowouts — where with the other brands, it was a common occurrence! Definitely sticking with Huggies going forward.” – Reviewer on Huggies’ website.

I bought this diapers after having disastrous results with another brand (Luvs). I don’t think I’ll be purchasing anything but Huggies from now on. My daughter is teething and has had some major blow outs, but thankfully they have been contained within the diapers this time around. Also, she hasn’t experienced any overnight leakage or rashes with the Huggies.” – Reviewer on Walmart.

Decided to give these a try after searching for top diapers. We are so glad we did. The diapers do such a great job that we can leave our newborn with them overnight and she wakes up dry and without any urine scent. They do a great job absorbing and do not leak. We stocked up on Kirkland Costco brand because that’s what everyone recommended. Those were really thin compared to these Snug and Dry Huggies and didn’t absorb or hold as much. Thank goodness that Costco has a good return policy. – Reviewer on Amazon.

Negative Reviews

This product doesn’t leak pee or poop which compared to other diapers like target brand, however it gave my newborn son a HORRIFIC reaction (angry red, peeling skin and little pimples) on his groin area which has taken over a week to heal so far and we’re still working on it. Lots of air drying and washing lots of different cloths that are being used to contain/pee and poop in the meantime with VERY frequent changes. The pee absorbency of the diaper is great, however the beads from the front of diaper leaked out all over him within 3 hours, which is a huge issue in the evening as the diaper boasts providing upto 12 hours of protection.” – Reviewer on Amazon.

I bought these about a week ago and my son (2 years) has been peeing through them at every nap time. I had used the little movers and never had this much of a problem. The little movers didn’t make it overnight, but definitely made it through naps. He wakes up soaked unless I use 2 diapers. Now I have a huge supply of diapers that I’m not happy with.” – Reviewer on Walmart.

We bought Pampers almost exclusively with our first child, but these Huggies diapers were cheaper and they’re a well known brand. So I thought I’d try them out. I hate them, I hate these diapers! The design is a fail. They don’t fit snugly. The opening at the legs are a bit loose. The diaper doesn’t come up in the back very far at all. When the diaper comes off, the Velcro straps curl inward and rest inside, in the mess! They stick to the wipes, and to itself making it difficult to wrap up. And finally, these diapers are not very absorbent. It boasts of 12 hour protection. I wouldn’t dare to leave it on for more than an hour, but probably even less than that. The diaper leaked. More than leaked, my baby was soaked through her clothes all the way up her back. And I had just changed her not that long ago, it’s not like it was already at capacity. This happened twice! A diaper has one job: contain the mess. It should be able to absorb the amount of one urination. Will I buy these again? It’s a no from me.” – Reviewer on Amazon.

Positive Reviews

We first got these at the hospital when our baby was born and when we got home we used the pampers swaddlers and it didn’t compare. We’ve been buying Huggies ever since! It’s stretchy and coverage is awesome. Keeps everything inside for the most part (except those explosions from time to time lol).” – Reviewer on Huggies’ website.

I have four children and have tried just about every brand of diapers there is. Huggies Little Snuggles are definitely the best for the price. I like that the band is stretchy so the diapers have a comfortable fit. The diapers are really soft and have a cute design. They have no smell which I prefer. The absorbancy is excellent and I don’t have as many blow outs. I’ve never had any allergies with any of my four children with these diapers either. They also have the wetness indicator so I know when baby needs to be changed.” – Reviewer on Walmart.

I have tried many different diapers: Honest, Target, every Pampers, every Huggies, Target, Kroger and Albertsons diapers, Seventh Generation, Luvs. It’s difficult to find Huggies Snugglers Size 4 in the store. I have to use Amazon. I like Snugglers because it doesn’t soak through quickly like Pampers, is soft yet sturdy like Honest, and isn’t paper thin like Luvs. Also hugs better around thighs. The best part- the poop trap at the top back of the diaper so that you have some extra insurance on a blow-out!!” – Reviewer on Amazon.

Negative Reviews

I loved the Little Snugglers we got in hospital, they were honestly the best diapers we’ve ever used (and after four kids that’s saying something) but once my son got large enough for size 3 the diapers changed, oh the names the same but its a completely diaper. And its a bad one. Honester once you hit size three they become so sub-par that you might as well be buying no-name brand, in fact it would probably work better. Every time that I can’t find a better brand and I have to buy these I cringe. Don’t get them.” – Reviewer on Walmart.

I bought a box of your size 6 diapers for my daughter and they literally gave her a chemical burn we were in the hospital due to her being burnt by your diapers would NOT recommend these diapers to any one my daughters bottom side is blistering bleeding and really red thank to the diapers never have this issue with pampers.” – Reviewer on Huggies’ website.

I bought the little smugglers small pack to try out yesterday. They are poor quality, smell weird, and they are not soft at all. The absorption is not the greatest but not bad. And I could care less about the prints. The diaper quality on the outside looks and feels cheap too. I do not recommend this diaper for any baby however maybe try their special delivery if you like Huggies. I may try those if they have a small package. I feel bad putting this on my 7 week baby I am probably not gonna finish the pack and just disregard them.” – Reviewer on Huggies’ website.
