Mushie Pacifier: Best Features & Safety Recall

Updated on

Overview

The right pacifier can help safely soothe your baby. The AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) recommends pacifier use as a possible way to reduce the risk of SIDs (sudden infant death syndrome). (1)

Mushie & Co. is among the brands that offer pacifiers or soothers to customers in the US.

Mushie currently sells only FRIGG pacifiers made from 100% natural rubber latex.

They used to offer both silicone and rubber pacifiers. But a massive product recall of Frigg silicone pacifiersin 2022 affected the company.

The company claims that these soothers are free from phthalates, PVC (polyvinyl chloride), and BPA (bisphenol-A). These toxic chemicals are used in plastic manufacturing but can cause cancer, heart problems, and reproductive system issues. (2)(3)(4)

Considering the 2022 recall on FRIGG pacifiers, you might have these questions in mind:

What Is The Mushie Brand?

Mushie & Co., LLC, of Houston, Texas, is an American company that sells a wide range of baby products, including pacifiers, bibs, swaddles, teethers, burp cloths, pacifier holders, skin-care products, and many others.

They also offer FRIGG pacifiers and gift cards.

What Is A FRIGG Pacifier?

These pacifiers are made by a Danish company, FRIGG Production ApS of Denmark.

FRIGG classic pacifiers ($7.99) are available with silicone (recalled) or natural rubber latex nipples:

  • The Classic design has a round plastic shield.
  • The Daisy design has a round, scalloped plastic shield.

Both designs have these similarities:

  • They’re available in two sizes: for 0-6 months and 6-18 months.
  • The name “FRIGG” is embossed on the handles of the pacifier shields.
  • They’re available in over 40 colors, including blush and powder blue.

Mushie Pacifier Recall 2022

A Potential Choking Hazard

Mushie & Co recalls all units of FRIGG silicone pacifiers due to a design issue that can turn this soother into a potential choking hazard. (6)

According to the CPSC (U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission) announcement, there’s a fine slit at the base of the silicone nipple, which can cause it to detach from the plastic shield.

The recall was done after US importer Mushie & Co received eight customer reports of the silicone nipple detaching from the base of the pacifier. (6)

Aside from these reports on Mushie & Co, the pacifier’s manufacturer, FRIGG Production ApS / FB Trading ApS of Denmark, also received around 200 similar reports outside the US. (6)

Though there weren’t any injuries or choking incidents reported, all the baby pacifiers were recalled to prevent further accidents.

Pacifier Products Affected

The brand recalled around 333,725 units of silicone pacifiers on January 19, 2022.

The recall includes both FRIGG silicone pacifiers designs in Classic and Daisy.

But it only affects the brand’s silicone pacifiers; the natural rubber pacifiers aren’t included.

The affected silicone pacifiers were imported by Mushie & Co. and sold at the following online shops and nationwide locations:

  • SpearmintLOVE
  • TJ Maxx
  • Lil’ Tulips
  • Olivia & Jade Company
  • www.mushie.com

These products were sold from April 2021 through December 2021.

Very important: immediately stop giving this recalled pacifierto your baby.

Although the product you have might look intact, the nipple can still detach and pose a choking risk if your baby continues to use it.

To get a full refund or credit, follow these instructions:

  • Cut the silicone nipple from the base of your FRIGG pacifier.
  • Take a picture of both the base and the detached silicone nipple.
  • Send the photo to Mushie & Co through [email protected]
  • It’s also important to properly dispose of these recalled pacifiers by placing the detached pieces into the garbage.

You can also contact Mushie & Co toll-free from Monday through Friday (ET) at 877-687-4431 or find more details at mushie.com/pages/recalls.

Are Mushie Pacifier Clips Safe?

The brand claims that these products, including the Cleo pacifier clips, are safe because they’re:

  • Natural wood beads
  • Premium quality, 100% food-grade silicone beads
  • 100% non-toxic
  • BPA-free
  • Odorless
  • Lead-free
