Choosing the Best Cloth Diapers

Choosing the Best Cloth DiapersWe have been using the best cloth diapers. I have a lot of friends looking to get started with cloth and, of course, I get asked a lot of questions. I know when I started using cloth diapers I was overwhelmed with all the choices. With so many to choose from, how do you really know which are the best cloth diapers? Sure, you could buy lots of different types and try them all to decide which cloth diapers you like the most. But that would cost a lot of money! Every brand wants to think they make the best cloth diapers but, honestly, I don’t think there actually is any one best cloth diaper. I think it all depends on what works for you. The best cloth diapers for my family may be a completely different setup then the best cloth diapers for your family. That’s why this series doesn’t focus on the single best cloth diaper in the world. Instead, I decided to put together a little primer for those of you just starting out, a white paper on yellow and brown, if you will. 🙂 This series focuses on breaking down many different kinds of cloth diapers and ends with my choice – the best cloth diaper for my family.

Comparing the Best Cloth Diapers

There are several types of cloth diapers but for my purpose I will divide cloth diapers into two categories. The first category includes all the cloth diapers that I don’t choose. In order to tell you a little bit about why I don’t choose them, I’ll give you a thorough explanation of how to use cloth diapers.

The second category is about my personal favorite option – cloth diapers with covers. Since this is my preferred option, I’ll go into a bit more detail here. First I’ll explain the difference between prefold cloth diapers, flats, and fitteds. Regardless of which cloth diaper option you choose, there are four features you want to consider when choosing cloth diapers. In the final article in this series we’ll consider these four features. I’ll illustrate my point by identifying brands of cloth diaper covers with these features but the four features are generally available with most cloth diaper options.
