Candy Cane Purse

CCBI participated in a gift exchange last year in one of my sewing groups. The only rules were that the item must be handmade and something the recipient couldn’t have made for themselves. I modified the Christine Bag pattern to make it resemble candy canes by using a sparkly white (Lion Brand Wool-Ease Yarn in Celebration) CCB-8for the main color and then a red (Lion Brand Hometown USA Yarn in Cincinnati Red) and a regular white (Loops & Threads Charisma in White) for the cables. It’s a really easy pattern that only took TWO days. (It’s one of the only projects I completed during my difficult pregnancy!)

Here’s how I modified it:

Cast on as follows:

8MC, 3R, 3W, 8MC, 3R, 3W, 8MC, 3R, 3W, 8MC

Use intarsia technique (twisting strands on wrong side of work) to pull color blocks together.

Note: Whip stitching the handle on is a PITA. I should have looked for a different option. The side seams were a breeze though. The pattern author has a great tutorial here: Seaming Sides.
